Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to the life in the Spirit (vitae spiritualis ianua), and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons (and daughters) of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: "Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word."(Catechism #1212)

El santo Bautismo es el fundamento de toda la vida cristiana, la puerta de entrada a la vida en el Espíritu (vitae spiritualis ianua) y la puerta de acceso a los demás sacramentos. Por el Bautismo somos liberados del pecado y renacemos como hijos (e hijas) de Dios; nos convertimos en miembros de Cristo, somos incorporados a la Iglesia y hechos partícipes de su misión: «El Bautismo es el sacramento de la regeneración por el agua en la palabra» (Catecismo, n.° 1212).
